i struggle a bit with posting complete photos of my paintings. I don’t always feel like they translate very well in thumbnail versions, but in light of recent things I’ll post this one and it’s accompanying words.

A very ancient and very quiet place, painted with a deliberate nakedness that allows the primary mark making to remain visible at the surface.
•
Actively expressing the resonance between opposing states and the notion of a visual afterimage, the painting explores how felt qualities of a place seem able to linger in our conscious long after we have left.
•
Seemingly carrying weight through subsequent layers of colour/tonal variance/+pattern/slipping from moments of crashing hot light into dense, eerie stillness/the character of the place has somehow translated itself into paint.
•
Despite being created with intention, I’m still quite surprised by its presence in my studio.

Painting the landscapes of Tasmania as my primary subject since 2019 while being based in another state has always relied on frequent short trips to record information/photos/sketches from which to work in my studio.
I’m incredibly excited to have the opportunity to stay and work in such close proximity to my favorite landscapes without interruption for a month & to see how this contributes to the growth of my practice.
